Breast Pumps FAQ’s
What’s The Difference Between A Manual Breast Pump And An Electric Breast Pump?
Using a manual breast pump is just simply that. You have a handle that you must pump in order to get the suction that is required to draw the milk from your breasts.
Using an electric breast pump allows the machine to do all of the work for you. They are operated via electricity, batteries or via a car adapter depending on the model chosen, and they allow you to set it through adjustments to the most comfortable settings for you.
Electric Breast Pumps will usually generate a lot more suction and produce more milk in lesser time than it takes a manual pump. If you plan on expressing milk frequently then investing in an electric breast pump is preferable.
With an electric machine, you can be doing other things at the same time such as reading a book or playing with your infant etc. With the manual types of pumps, you have to have one hand on the pump at all times in order to generate that suction that is required.

What Is The Difference Between A Single And A Double Pump?
Basically, both a single electric pump and a manual pump will only have one breast shield (the part that covers the breast) while a double or dual electric breast pump will employ two breast shields. Using a double breast pump will allow you to express milk from both breasts at the same time, a job that will take you about half as long as using a single or manual pump. It will take a little time mastering the use of the double electric versions of pumps but they are worth the investment in both time and money as you will save a lot of time with one of them. They are simply more convenient to use.
Are Double Electric Breast Pumps Harder To Clean?
Not at all. While they come with a couple of extra parts, a double electric pump comes apart just as easily as a single electric and is either hand washable or dishwasher safe, depending on the brand. The time you save expressing with a double electric will more than make up for the extra few seconds it takes to wash the additional parts.
What About Portability?
The dual units will take up more space than the single units but many models come with their own tote bags or you can just take your own tote bag with you. In addition, being able to run the units off of battery power or car adapter power makes them very portable giving you the flexibility to be able to pump anywhere that you may be.
